It’s official – BT Redcare is closing

Is BT Redcare closing? Yes, it is, which might not be welcome news for customers who have relied on BT Redcare for, well, years. But the good news is that you can switch to another alarm signalling device to future-proof your security systems.

What is BT Redcare?

“BT Redcare offered a secure form of alarm monitoring. The service provides continuous monitoring of a BT telephone line that links a professionally installed alarm system on your premises to an alarm receiving centre. The result is continuous protection of your property, every second of the day, 365 days a year.”

When is BT Redcare ending?

According to their *official website, BT Redcare is closing on 1st August 2025. However, we’re already receiving calls where it has been disconnected, so we expect it will be gradual and then finally end on that day.

What is alarm monitoring?

Alarm monitoring is where you pay a professional security company to monitor the alarm on your property. But it’s not just about alerting you when something or someone is spotted; the alarm monitoring company can also call emergency services. And perhaps just as importantly, they can confirm to the police that it’s not a false alarm. That’s crucial, as no one wants to waste police time, and you must be taken seriously so that your property, team, and belongings/stock are protected.

Many insurers insist that alarms are installed correctly and that an alarm monitoring service is used to deter intruders and prevent false alarms to the police. The service can also connect to fire services, giving you extra protection.

Alarm monitoring gives you peace of mind, so you don’t have to worry about alerts and alarms – a professional company does it for you.

How to choose an alternative to Redcare

Contact your trusted security systems installer, such as West Mercia Security, as we offer an alternative alarm monitoring device.

It's important to choose the right alarm company, so here are some tips on safely selecting a new company to take on upgrading your Redcare device.

Honest company or a scammer?

It sounds scary, but the first step is determining whether the company is legitimate. Do they have a website, social media, and a registered company address on Companies House? It’s not a guarantee, but it can weed out pretend businesses.

Do they do a good job?

And what about rogue traders? You can check reviews on TrustPilot and online to see what previous customers have said about the company. It’s also important to look for qualifications and accreditations such as SSAIB or similar. When a company has this, they have passed some stringent checks from an auditor who has visited the company; they also check their certifications.

At West Mercia Security Ltd, we’ve been securing and providing 24/7 monitoring services for home and business owners with security since 1982. We’re a family-owned business trusted by 100s of customers – you can read our reviews here
