Full Expense Capital Allowance For All Security & Fire Systems For Your Business
If you run a business, then you’re probably good at giving any major money decisions some serious thought before you sign on the dotted line. It’s important to balance the outlay with any benefits. So, you’ll be happy to know you can expense a security system, which might make the business case for a new security system a strong one.
And as we approach Christmas, it’s a good time to secure your building – especially those that have a full factory shutdown.
Let’s face it – no one wants to be in the middle of eating Christmas dinner and have to take a call about a potential break-in that turns out to be a spider crawling across an alarm sensor. And far from jumping in a car or calling Margaret to check the premises mid-sprout, it’s easier to open an app and take a quick look.
Plus, there’s the serious matter of deterring intruders by checking for weak spots in buildings and installing cameras and sensors to prevent them in the first place.
And with the cost now offset against tax – the benefits of a secure building, and the threat of outlay should an intruder get in, make it a good business decision.
The Government’s Allowance Blurb
The government has said that this latest allowance will “...temporarily increase the relief available for capital expenditure on plant and machinery in the year the expenditure is incurred. For qualifying expenditure incurred on or after 1 April 2023 but before 1 April 2026, companies can claim:
- a 100% first-year allowance for main rate expenditure – known as full expensing; and
- a 50% first-year allowance for special rate expenditure.”
How Full Expensing Works in Reality
Yeah, that was a bit much for us, too – so we’ve taken a look at the firm of accountants, PwC, and they simplify it by saying, “Effectively, full expensing means companies should receive up to a 25% in-year tax deduction for the capital expenditure on significant proportions of their plant and machinery.”
So much easier, so as always, it’s good to speak to your accountant to double-check the facts on any allowances before purchase. And if you need some more bedtime reading, the full government article is here.
Benefits of a New Security System
Deter criminals. Making your building less of a target is the best first step you can take to put an intruder off. If it’s too much effort – they might not bother. You can ask a professional, like West Mercia Security Ltd, to identify weak spots in your security. From areas not covered by a camera to a window that’s easier to gain entry through – they can all be spotted and remedied.
App-tastic. It’s so much easier to monitor buildings remotely on your phone. You can download a secure app that will take you into your security cameras to look around. You can connect this to alarm systems and trigger it. You can also set up notifications to know when areas are accessed, or movement is detected.
Leave the monitoring to professionals. Maintenance packages also mean that your system can be monitored and maintained by professionals. So, with 24/7 access, you aren’t kept awake at night.
Meet insurance small print. Most insurers stipulate rules on installing a security system, the maintenance, and even the connection to Police and Fire departments. If you don’t comply, you might find you’re not covered.
